Okay, if you love a fresh donut right outta the oven and you haven’t been to Dooher’s in Campbellford, Ontario, ya gotta go!! As part of a recent product tour of Northumberland County, Eileen Lum, the county tourism director, introduced us to this favourite Northumberland haunt which has been serving customers in the county since 1955. I don’t know how we missed this place on past trips through Campbellford which is about one and half hours northeast of Toronto. It’s located at 51 Bridge Street East, a half a block east of the bridge which crosses the Trent Severn Waterway. I tried their sour cream glazed. It was the real “McCoy” along the lines of what my New Brunswick granny used to make. Eileen swears by the chocolate glazed so, she had one of those and Glenn opted for a Dooher’s muffin. Everything’s baked on the premises here- donuts, pastries, and breads. Their website talks more about this family-run business and how all their products are made from scratch using their own recipes. Here at RoadStories.ca, we’re always looking for new places to visit. Got a favourite bakery in your area of Canada? Please tell us in the comments below. If we’re lucky enough to take a road trip through your part of the country, we’ll be sure to check it out – and probably even blog about it.

you HAVE to try their donuts cut in half filled with a chantilly cream….IT IS TO DIE FOR! but you have to get there early or they’re gone…….
We are fortunate to live just 20 minutes from Campbellford and our office manager drives through there every morning. We limit her to one treat-stop at Dooher’s each week. I love their plum puddings which are just available at Christmas, while the summer brings strawberry tarts. Mmmmmmmm…..Dooher’s ranks as one of my very favourite bakeries.
