Travel writers win “Best Spirit of Canada” awards

July 11, 2016 by Glenn 1 Comment

Mark Stevens and Sharon Matthews Stevens

At Roadstories we are kinda proud of our contributing writers and photographers, so we were delighted when Mark Stevens won a first place TMAC Award in the “Best Spirit of Canada” category for a story that he wrote for Roadstories.ca

Mark won for “Lest We Forget” (a mellifluous meditation on the musical score of an act of remembrance). Way to go Mark!

The Travel Media Association of Canada announced the winners of the 2015 TMAC Awards on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at the Membertou Trade & Convention Centre in Sydney, Nova Scotia, as part of the closing gala of TMAC’s annual Conference & AGM.

The Best Spirit of Canada category is devoted to articles that bring Canada, its landscape, its culture and its people alive on the page. It’s sponsored by Tourism Yukon (how apropos). Rather than an inventory of things to do, these stories scream “This is Canada!”. These stories find inventive ways to bring the Canadian experience to life. These stories are about Canadians for Canadians…

Some say Canada’s personality is impossible to define. Evidently not.

Second place went to Cinda Chavich for “The Rock of Ages” (Doctor’s Review – May 2015), a misty tale where Cinda finds magic and loss and wonder and ruin ’round the rugged coasts of Newfoundland.
