A Montreal weekend

March 12, 2014 by Judy 6 Comments

Montréal en Lumière Festival 2014

It was THE weekend to be in Montreal. The Leafs were in town to play the Habs and Nuit Blanche, the grand finale to Montréal en Lumière, was in full swing. We capped off our stay with the late night art walk but not before sitting down with 400 others to a Montréal en Lumière Haitian dinner at Bonsécours Market. The city’s large Haitian community was out in full force for a three-course meal which featured a superbly spiced chicken dish served with a medley of veggies including Okra, a personal favourite of mine. Stephan Berrouet Durand and his team at the Plaza Hotel came all the way from Port au Prince to preside over the event but you don’t have to travel to Haiti if you want good Haitian cuisine. Méli Mélo on Jarry Street in Montreal’s east end has a lunch counter that serves some of the city’s best. The Montreal Gazette, the city’s English daily, did a story and video of it.

If you get there before I do, lemme know what you think.
