Report from the road – Day Four:
…….
The only rest stop between Tombstone Territorial Park and Eagle Plains (about a five hour drive) but only one of the gobsmacking views along the Dempster. Small sign on outhouse says …
“Watch out for aggressive grizzly”
But no grizzlies spotted.
The Dempster highway might not look like much but this road runs through some of Canada’s prettiest scenery. When I wasn’t dodging potholes I was admiring Tombstone Territorial Park’s subarctic tundra or the slate gray peaks of the Ogilvie range. I’d heard stories of motorcycles crashed in the mud or clouds of dust obscuring vehicle windshields but today I had perfect conditions. Dry but no dust, no travellers in distress, and few bugs when I stopped. Hoping the good conditions continue tomorrow!
